One of the things we love about living and working in Yorkshire is the abundance of delicious, locally produced food and drink the county has to offer. Working with these artisan producers, meeting them at shows and events, is one of the things we love. Many we have known since we first started Charlie & Ivy’s. And when it came to our latest collaboration, it seemed like the perfect fit to work with our friends at Wold Top Brewery.

Like us, they are based on the top of the stunning Yorkshire Wolds. A picturesque brewery nestled in the centre of their family farm, now run by husband and wife team Alex and Kate Balchin. The multi award-winning brewery focuses on producing its range of 8 core beers, along with a continuous cycle of seasonal and limited edition brews, available across the UK and Europe.

Passionate about great taste, their Yorkshire Wolds grown, sustainably brewed beers were the ideal combo to pair up with our new recipes to celebrate National Barbecue Week. The natural combination of cooking over hot coals, whilst sipping your favourite brew, is our idea of the perfect summer combo. So read on to discover our latest barbecue recipes, and how best to enjoy them with the perfectly paired pint.



Jerk Chicken & Pineapple Barbecue Skewers


These quick and easy barbecue skewers are a dream to make, as they take so little time. Prep ahead and allow the Jerk Marinade to work its magic for at least an hour before cooking. Serve alongside a dipping bowl filled with our Mango & Chilli Dressing, and garnish with some fresh sliced limes and a scattering of chopped coriander leaves.

Pair it with: Scarborough Fair IPA – Wold Top’s best-selling, British style IPA. A beautiful balance of lightly toasted malts and zingy citrus hops give a lovely subtle flavour. As good with hot, spicy food as it is drunk on its own.



Halloumi & Asparagus with Rosemary, Thyme & Lemon


Oh, so easy, and perfect for British asparagus season. Made using simple, quality ingredients and our Rosemary, Lemon & Thyme Bread Dipper, this veggie barbecue serving looks beautiful and takes amazing.

Pair it with: Against the Grain - An amazing gluten free beer! Light in colour but big on flavour, this is a lager style beer with a crisp, clean taste and a citrus kick. The perfect foil to a strong cheese too.




Flat Iron Steak with Tomato Salsa


A classic barbecue dish, perfect for grazing. Drizzle your steak in our Chilli, Balsamic, Oregano and Thyme Bread Dipper for a flavour sensation! Barbecue to your desired finish (we serve ours rare), slice and top with this chunky homemade salsa. We love this dish sliced and served on a board served with salads and crusty bread.

Pair it with: Wold Gold - A beautiful blonde ale with hints of stone fruits (think peaches and apricots) and lightly spiced notes. A Yorkshire twist on a European wheat beer. Great with barbecued meats, curries or even fish and chips!
